Policy Statement

What students can Expect From Us

Famlingo is committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all learners enrolling with us. We will take steps to make sure learners taking our courses are not disadvantaged directly or indirectly, because of a protected characteristic, as defined by the Equality Act 2010. Protected characteristics include: age; disability; gender reassignment; race; religion or belief; sex; sexual orientation; pregnancy and maternity.

Every learner will be given equal opportunity and assessed fairly.

This means that:

  • We aim to provide learning materials in a format that gives the learners equal access to fulfil the assessment criteria

  • If candidates require any reasonable adjustments, the Centre will provide support in applying to the awarding body for this

  • Candidates will receive equal opportunity to apply for extra time with appropriate supporting evidence to the awarding body, with support from the Centre.

  • Assessment will be a test of the candidate’s knowledge, what they understand, and what they are able to do. It is ideal for all learners to be given the same tasks (e.g. video receptive, English to BSL relay or project, etc.) If a given task is unsuccessfully achieved, then the assessor will supply an equivalent task for the candidate to achieve the second time around. This task will not be an easier option, otherwise it is unfair for other candidates having to try and achieve a harder task.

  • The same overall set of exercises and assessment criteria will be used for every student

  • Assessors and teachers will ensure that all students each receive a fair amount of assessment time.

To achieve this, good forward planning and checklists are used to ensure assessment criteria is achieved.
